The day rock and roll struck back
Sunday 20th December 2009… Rock and Roll struck back against the years of mediocre sterile media pop musik forced on us by shows like x-factor and pop-idol and rockstar.
Thanks to a groundswell by grass roots fans on Facebook and Twitter, Simon Cowell and his x-factor manufactured pop stars no longer have the monopoly on the xmas #1 song. 950,000 people on Facebook voiced their dis-satisfaction with the usual state of play in the music world and voted with their wallets by making Rage Against The Machine’s song ‘Killing In The Name Of’ the 2009 Christmas number 1.
Joe whatever his name is still sold a respectable number of singles in the week leading up to the 20th but the Facebook groundswell took Killing In The Name Of to over 500,000 singles sold.
It was an awesome display of people power and was supported by a large number of celebrities world wide, including it turns out a previous winner of x-factor.
Some people are probably going around cursing our names (if they knew us all) for denying Joe a #1 debut single… but hey… he can be happy with a #2 for xmas.
Now we need to get behind the ground swell to remove these tv reality show blights from our screens so we can get back to normal service.
