Anzac Day 2008

To those soldiers who died so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we have.

We will remember you.

Australia gave a lot in 2 world wars and countless other little wars around the world. We watched as the best of two generations went off to fight and die in other peoples fights.

Every April on the 25th, we remember their sacrifices by marching and drinking and playing two up illegally.

It’s a day of national pride and national sadness and it’s also to remind ourselves that freedom has a price that worth paying for even if it is your life you pay for it with.

I dont know whether it will happen… But I would like to see another invasion at Gallipoli on the 100th aniversary of Anzac Day. A friendly invasion this time where an army of Australians land at the same place and the same time and walk across Gallipoli to complete what our forefathers started but didnt finish.

The turkish people are very welcome to come along and help us to climb those hills because like our forefathers, their forefathers were honourable men who I respect for their bravery and determination.

A lot of good men died in that fight on both sides and we will always remember them.

Lest we forget
